TWC's ApprenticeshipTexas describes apprenticeship as an employer-driven earn-while-you-learn model combining on-the-job training with job-related instruction. TWC's FAQ (last updated 9-9-24) lists the basics: apprentices are full-time W-2 employees, at least 2,000 hours of on-the-job learning per year and at least 144 hours of related technical instruction per year, with wages that rise as skills grow and a nationally recognized credential issued by the Department of Labor. Job seekers search registered programs through TWC's apprenticeship job search or the federal Apprenticeship Finder and apply to the employer or sponsor. TWC's find-apprenticeships page says sponsors set the qualifications; minimums it lists are age 16 (18 for some hazardous jobs) and a high school diploma or equivalent, though each program may differ, and some ask for aptitude tests or experience. It lists steps: find a program in the Apprenticeship Finder, contact it, apply, and sign an apprentice agreement. The office's email address is published on the page.
